Kansk Video Festival was began with a joke. It`s not a myth, it`s true!

Once we didn`t know anything about Kansk city. Once we were working in a boring office and were visiting different web-sites. Once Andrey Silvestrov had found Kansk city on the map of Russia... And made a joke: "What if we organise Cannes Film Festival in Kansk, in Siberia? Think, it will be funny!" (in Russian the festival in Cannes or in Kansk pronounces equally). Pavel Labazov and Nadya Bakuradze had laughed for a while but  haven`t forgotten this joke.

In 2002, when the Videodom Studio have been working for a large transcultural project Kulturdrang Nach Osten, we recalled Kansk again. The participants of the project (film directors, artists, journalists, actors, musicians and all others) had to go by train across Russia, from Moscow to Irkutsk. Kansk was directly on their way. And we made use of this situation. We decided to organise the 1st International Kansk Video Festival of an opposite kind from Cannes Film Festival.  

No sooner said than done!

But joking aside the serious video festival appeared in Kansk. It happens annually from 2002. Now a lot of people in Russia and all around the world get to know Kansk better. On the one hand, it`s a result of the festival programs` level, on the other hand, of many festival promotion screenings that were organised at different festivals since 2002.  

During last 6 years Kansk Video Festival has created its own stylistics of  events. It is the most democtaric festival in Russia. We have no red carpet runners, no body-guards for superstars, no VIP sessions, etc. But! We have public screenings free of charge, direct contact with our audience, many adventures and unforgettable moments of happiness when everything is all right.
