UNKNOWN artists in concrete, ESTONIAN LENGTH on the big screen, ROCK-N-ROLL PUPPET SHOW on the square, 59 NEWEST shorts and video-arts from 24 countries of the world; and all these until the full Japanese ANIMErism on shows from morning to the late evening.
The VIII International Kansk Video Festival is opening on August 23, 2009. It is as well-known in Russia, as its French fellow, but it is not necessary to speak about their blood relations. They are different as two twin-brothers, one of them is free-minded marginal artist, and the other became an oligarch to pine under the gold.
This year "infinity" became a theme of the most avant-garde video-forum in the country. It is the one that excites all intelligent people. Infinity of inner life, infinity of cultural manifestations, infinity of taiga sky, infinity of expectation, and infinity of news stream, immersing us to the chaos of finite life… However, every author who has sent their “endless films” to the festival competition had his own interpretation of the theme. The best works will be shown at the festival.
The competition program 2009 includes innovative, experimental and just excellent shorts and video-art works: 59 films from 24 countries (including 16 works from 7 cities of Russia) in all, which have been selected from 500 applications received from film makers from all over the world. Shows for jury and public will pass from August 25 to August 28.
Festival Awards Ceremony — sight seen and unseen — will take place on August 29. This time the prize-winners of the last year will come the Kansk forum: Fabrice Maruka (France, 2nd prize, "Surprise!"), Gerard Freixas Ribera (Spain, 3rd prize, “Alone”) and Federico Schmuckler (Mexico, Gran-Prix “Palm Secateur D’Or”, “Reality show”). All winners at last will meet visually and manually their prizes, diplomas, flowers, and fans.
In addition to competitive films special programs will be shown in Kansk: “Estonian Length” (there is full, short, but still there is an Estonian), “Full Animerism” (retrospective of the cult Japanese anime, with support of the Embassy of Japan in Russia), as well as the best programs of the European festivals and much more.
The special non-screen-creative event. As it is known, in 2008 in honour of the festival “Kansk palm alley” appeared in Siberia, it was built by children from Moscow, Norilsk and Kansk (the DEZ№5 studio`s project). Then it was decided to establish «The world`s first city-museum of contemporary art» in Kansk. In August 2009, the museum`s collection is expected to replenish: there will be created “the Monument to the unknown artist” (the author is unknown). It is said that this monument was decided to build at the last year’s congress of unknown artists which have charged to one of unknown artists to set up a monument in the well-known city Kansk.
You can watch the unknown artist working over a self-portrait from concrete during the festival days. Opening party will be held on 27th of August 2009. In honour of the unknown artist Deep Purple Puppet Show (by Alexey Kustensov) is performing near the monument on the main square of the city.
