The 3rd International Kansk Video Festival

Main event: The International Kansk Video Festival starts selection to the new contest program. Submissions are accepted from 1st May until (and including) 15th July. (Please make inquiries on delivery terms – submissions delivered after 15th July won’t be participating in the contest.) In case of postage by express-mail etc. please obtain an address via e-mail or by phone.
What: The International Kansk Video Festival is being held for the third time – started as an alternative art-project, it has become traditional for the citizens of Kansk (a 100,000-people town in Siberia). Like in the previous years, Voskhod theater’s big screen will be displaying a selection of most radical, provocative, sincere video-films of the modern world (the festival’s geography includes 37 countries and lots of Russian cities).
The festival is organized on the principle of maximum non-conformism: no resorts – no beaches – no capitals – no sacred cows in the contest: our pathetics is based on showing (finally!) the new and live art as it is. The festival has started as a living vice versa: no easy art - but a challenge and continuous quest; no respected extras in the jury – but people who really work with contemporary art actively (would it be writers, artists, film directors, critics, curators, composers etc.) – people who care, who take formation of a new genre as a personal affair.
And the first two festival seasons have given their fruit! The myth of contemporary art as something elite and incomprehensible has been earnestly proven groundless, for the festival has won a devoted audience in Kansk; shock has been replaced by curiosity, curiosity by mature interest. The festival itself has also grown up – but never calmed down! Art opposition continues: no overestimated stars – the unknown and genius young; no Riviera seashore – the heart of Siberia; no dull palms – but wonderfully aggressive palm secateurs.

When: first week of September, 2004.
Trophies and Nominations: honorary diplomas for the first, second and third places in the absolute weight; special diploma of the selection committee for the best Russian film. Grand-prix: the Golden Palm Secateaur. Moreover that, some surprises are expected; watch out for the announcements!
Our goal is to demostrate the new, live, inceptive art. The
Kansk festival is a challenge to the public taste, a quest
for new comprehension of the world in general and
contemporary art in particular.
